The global economy is hooked on the extraction and burning of fossil fuels to power production and consumption. It is jeopardizing the planet and the possibility of continued civilized human existence. On a deeper cultural level, this economy has been shaped by a world view that propels the continued taking of resources without thought to its consequences for our future, or our present. However, a new principle based on hope and possibilities is emerging among global movements, which understands that this relationship of dominance to the earth must be transcended.
Tomorrow’s Power follows three stories of communities and movements intensely challenging current power structures, leading to possibilities of a future with both social and climate justice. The film takes you to the war-torn, oil-rich Arauca province in Colombia where peoples have been building a peace process from the bottom up and creating an impressive solidarity economy; it brings viewers to Germany where Ende Gelände activists are pushing the country to leave behind the extraction of fossil fuels by shutting down the country´s vast lignite mines, Europe´s worst climate polluters, with courageous acts of mass civil disobedience; and it presents the story of EmpowerGAZA, where the problem of daily energy blackouts, born out of the 11- year siege on Gaza, is being tackled by health practitioners through solar power in order to provide adequate care in the hospitals.
